Former Chibok Schoolgirl, Survivor of Boko Haram Abduction, Announces Engagement in the US

Joy Bishara, a brave survivor of the 2014 Boko Haram attack on Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, Nigeria, has recently shared delightful news of her engagement in the United States.

In the horrifying incident that caught global attention, 276 female students aged between 16 to 18 were abducted by the notorious terrorist group. Fortunately, 57 of these brave young girls, including Joy Bishara and her cousin Lydia Pogu, managed to escape from the clutches of their captors. Subsequently, both Joy and Lydia relocated to the US for safety and new opportunities.

In pursuit of a better future, Joy Bishara successfully graduated from Southeastern University with a degree in social work in 2021, a testament to her determination and resilience in the face of adversity.

Though some of the abducted schoolgirls were later rescued by the Nigerian Armed Forces, over 100 of them still remain missing, reminding us of the ongoing challenges faced by their families and communities.

Amidst these hardships, Joy Bishara's engagement has brought a glimmer of hope and happiness to her life. Her story serves as an inspiration to many around the world, showcasing the strength of the human spirit and the possibility of finding joy after enduring unimaginable trials.
